Google 111 Eighth Ave Commons

Google 111 Eighth Ave Commons

The Google Commons project is located at 111 Eighth Avenue in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. This renovation is part of Google’s focused approach to creating the best and healthiest working environment for Google employees. The Commons connects floors 8, 9, 10, and 11, and features a large atrium that is a unique experience within the building. An open and attractive stair encourages Googlers towards physical activity. An outdoor landscaped terrace and large windows provide a connection to the exterior. Occupants can experience climate and weather patterns from inside or outside. They can also observe more closely the seasonal patterns of the terrace ecosystem with its plant, bird, and insect life. The Commons has become the dynamic heart of Google NYC. It is a grand circulation spine and casual collision-driven environment. The variety of micro-kitchens, focus and collaborative spaces encourages Googlers and visitors to move throughout the space. They have the freedom to choose locations based on individual or team needs and as appropriate for quiet, relaxing, or active social moments. The views sweeping from the Manhattan skyline across the Hudson River to the Hudson River Palisades inspired a design of an equally grand scale. The vertical space lent itself to a multi-leveled design concept of a cross-section of the local ecosystem. It begins on the 8th floor with subterranean themes, extends above ground with a “forest” on the 9th floor, up to an active “sky” on the 10th floor.
