Pratt University Engineering Quad

Pratt Institute Engineering Quad

HLW’s team worked closely with Pratt Institute students throughout the design and construction phases to create a quadrangle that improves circulation within a dense urban environment and more cohesive campus setting. An important objective of the design was to create open green space, in the heart of Pratt’s Brooklyn, NY campus,  where students could come to enjoy a beloved space on campus. The project features clear paths between buildings, as well as designated areas, such outdoor classrooms and sitting nooks, for learning, socializing, or unwinding.  The redesign and rebuild of the approximately 40,000-square foot outdoor space was celebrated by the Municipal Arts Society (MAS) for creating a beautiful and “truly urban landscape.”

“We had a clear directive to ‘connect the dots’ between the school’s many assets, including the surrounding architecture, the outdoor sculpture, and the potential for realizing very unique outdoor classroom strategies,” said Michael Tegnell, HLW Director of Planning and Urban Design.
