We continually challenge ourselves to reach beyond our client’s imagination to create places that enhance the user experience. “Our work tells your story” is our firm’s guiding design philosophy.
We are an integrated architecture, design, strategy & planning firm with offices in New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Stamford and London serving clients around the globe.
Our Internship program offers Summer, Fall and Spring cycles and brings students and post grads with a passion for architecture and design together to learn and grow in a highly collaborative and innovative environment. Our program not only offers hands-on experience working side by side with senior members of our teams, but also provides dedicated mentors to make sure goals are being met and our intern’s skills developed.
“After graduating from Pratt Institute, I’ve been interested in ways to bridge computation and architecture. HLW caught my attention because of their futuristic attitude towards the architecture practice and their digital computation team called ‘NEXT’ where I am currently involved in right now.”
“I used the Youtube space as my thesis precedent and I found the Google building, including the Youtube department in Chelsea, was designed by HLW. That was the main reason to come to work for HLW. Now I am working on the Construction Administration of 13th floor of that building.”

“I wanted to work for HLW for a number of reasons, but I was sold on the people. There’s a youthful and fresh energy amongst HLW’ers. What I love the most about working here is the work-life balance. This is one of the best I’ve ever had in the design industry.”
“What drew me to HLW is it being one of the best workplaces that has a great work culture and also works on diverse projects. An elevator cab and hotel are some of my favorite projects that I’ve worked on. There were great opportunities to brainstorm abstract ideas and innovative concepts for the cab. For the hotel, I worked on the design development stages while being exposed to the architectural side of the project. Not to be missed out on, the team was my favorite group of people to work with!”
“The rich history and the desire to be part of today’s exciting projects are what drew me to the firm. I love the diversity in the work I get to do on a daily basis – it keeps me interested and engaged. The company culture is amazing! Managers aren’t constantly looking over your shoulder but will check in and make sure that everything is going smoothly, they’re always happy to help whenever I have any questions.”
