Aspen Insurance

During the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aspen Insurance encouraged its employees to work from home, while significantly downsizing its real estate footprint and positioning itself to pivot to a hybrid work model. When employees and staff were able to safely return to the workplace, Aspen wanted to greet them with a new brand identity and offices that would enable them to do and feel their best.

For Aspen’s Jersey City location, HLW integrated biophilia into workspace’s design scheme to make returning to work not just mandatory, but also pleasant. Natural light and outdoor views, moss walls, plantings, natural materials like wood and marble, and pictorial representations of trees and leaves create a sense of calm throughout the project.

The driving design principle behind the custom environmental graphics package was creating “pathways.” The very specific angles of the pathways within Aspen’s brand guidelines were translated into distinctive supergraphics, glass films, and wayfinding materials that create the core circulation patterns through the space, as well as inspire feelings of comradery and a common sense of purpose
